Telecomm Application Fiber Elements
Nanonics proprietary technology can provide customized fiber optic elements for telecomm and other applications according to individual customer specifications. Based on its patented fiber-optic element production techniques and its unique testing abilities, Nanonics can optimize these fiber elements to customer needs.
Custom Coating on Telecom Fibers
- Coatings with various combinations of metals (Ni, Au, Cr)
- Coating length, thickness, and positioning according to customer needs
- Multiple types tests for coating quality are available
Our minimum tests include measuring light leakage from the coating as the fiber is bent to 180 degrees. These tests can be complemented by sonnication of the coated fiber as a quality control test of the coating strength. In addition, the resistance of the coating to peeling off with various strengths of sticking tape can be checked.
Fiber Bending
- Permanent bends in fibers with various angles can be produced
- Bends with fiber tapering as close as 50 microns from the tip
- Non-tapered bends with radii of curvature that cause zero loss and maintain the polarization of the light traveling through the fiber
Fiber Concentrators
- Concentrators can be produced with various profiles, including multiple alterations in profile
- Cone angles approaching 90 degrees can be made for specialized applications
- Profiles can be tested with an accuracy of nanometers
Special Lens Geometries
- Aspheric and convex lenses.
- Cylindrical lenses, with various major:minor axis ratios
- Ball lenses with various radii
Fiber Scribing
Nanonics has unusual proprietary capabilities in fiber scribing with resolutions of less than 50 nanometers possible. We can perform both physical scribing by scratching a surface with an AFM tip or optical scribing by using NSOM to "write" diffractive optical element patterns of nanometer dimensions.
Fiber Polishing
Polishing is provided according to customer's custom designs. Tests of the polished surface flatness and dimensions can be provided with nanometer accuracy.
Fiber Gratings
Gratings can be inscribed with various customer-defined protocols. Optical tests of the inscribed gratings can be provided.
Fiber Bonding Bonding of fibers to customer-specified sub-components can be provided. Tests for mechanical strength, light leakage, and reliability of the bending under extreme conditions can be provided.
