NSOM reflection is dependent on the index of refraction variations in the sample.  In these images NSOM reflection imaging is correlated with the distribution of light. Although these images are uncalibrated, in principle reflection NSOM imaging is related to the refractive index, but accurate calibration is required to effectively correlate reflection NSOM with refractive index.
